Fling with Ex
“Uh-huh, life's like this, that's the way it is- COMPLICATED.”
How many times can you fall in love with one person over and over again despite all odds and despite growing old apart?
Well, many would agree and say that the “spark” despite separation, tears and hurt remains and grows only deeper with time, but it certainly is “complicated” to decide whether to be with someone or not to be with someone, especially once a separation “seal” put on a relationship seals it all.
No doubt, it becomes rather difficult not to fall for the person, with whom you fell in love first and then got married later, perhaps even more difficult to be in “control of emotions” especially once the “flesh of your passion” (baby) is out and kicking.
“It’s complicated” (movie 2009) is a story of Jane (Meryl Streep), who is a self-reliant divorce and owns a successful bakery in Santa Barbara, California.
After ten years of separation and three grown children, she finally achieves a good relationship with her ex-husband Jake (Alec Baldwin), a successful attorney, who remarries the much-younger Agness (Lake Bell).
When brought together at a family event, two exes find themselves oddly attracted to each other even after ten years of divorce. Although they feel that the affair will stay in a different state, it brings itself back to their own city and disrupts their personal lives. While the couple maintain other romances, they cannot help, but to continue with their affair.
Complicating the matter is Adam (Steve Martin), an architect hired to remodel Jane's home, who is healing from a divorce of his own, and who has begun to fall in love with Jane. He spends time getting to know her as a person. On the night of Luke's graduation party, Jane invites Adam to the party, and when he picks her up she's high because she smoked one of the joints that Jake gave her. Then at the party, Adam takes a swift from the joint too and they both become really high. Jake becomes jealous observing them, but with some cajoling by Jane, he gets high as well. Harley confronts Jake and Jane, stressed from keeping their secret, and eventually agrees to smoke some pot as well. Agness then observes Jake and Jane dancing together, and becomes suspicious of their renewed closeness.
Finally, what happens is worth a watch…whether it’s the two exes together or the two separated persons taking a chance to experience all the marital complications all over again??
